But, the term still held a lot of weight. Here’s an excerpt from our Word of the Year announcement in The national debate can arguably be summarized by the question: In the past two years, has there been enough change? Has there been too much? Meanwhile, many Americans continue to face change in their homes, bank accounts and jobs.

Generally, that bias comes from various preconceptions about the shows, their writers, the actors, etc. In this case, the bias comes from lead actress, Idina Menzel, whose voice I have held in my memory since I was six years old and first heard the Rent soundtrack. The reason I saw the show was for her, despite the lackluster reviews of its test run in Washington DC.
While writers Brian Yorkey book, lyrics and Tom Kitt score and director Michael Greif whose names have been affiliated with such hits as Next to Normal and Rent helped convince me that I was right in giving this show a chance, I should admit to anyone who reads this that I went not once—but twice—for the thrill of seeing one of my favorite singers perform live on a Broadway stage.
Understanding that, I have decided not to “review” the show, so to speak. I don’t want to attest to how well or poorly it functions as a musical, since no one would or really should believe me on that subject anyway.

OK, fine, they think its all over, well it pretty much is now, lol. But being strictly politically neutral on UK matters…well…? No, seriously, I mean my little break in the sun. Of course, the sixty four million dollar question is, has the break in the sun done my back any good? I certainly havent missed not hearing all about the chaos at home over Brexit, and other stuff, for sure.
In a sense, its more my sort of town than Faro would be, more peaceful, laid back, and dare I say it, old fashioned? Sadly I didnt get to Spain, as I reached the ferry terminal after town, and lunch, to see it pulling out for Ayamonte, across the river, in a different country, and given the next one wasnt for another hour in the off season, I didnt wait.
That would have put me on the 2. Maybe another time, maybe not, who knows?

The touring production has much the same cast as it did on Broadway, where it played for performances and 29 previews. The Broadway production received mostly mixed reviews, with the agreement being that the cast excelled but the score and book were somewhat blurred. The strong box office seemed to be due to the cast rising above the script. You won’t find a better cast of singers and performers than those in this touring company.
First let’s get the book also by Brian Yorkey out of the way. Elizabeth is a middle-aged divorcee who moves to New York. In one life she is Beth, who has an award-winning career in the city planner’s office, and relationships with her married boss and her bi-sexual friend; in the other life she is Liz, who settles for a teaching job but meets a handsome doctor with whom she has two children.
Both of these paths develop in consecutive scenes and even change mid-song with different lighting. The score, with music by Kitt and lyrics by Yorkey, is enjoyable enough, especially when Idina Menzel sings “What the Fuck? Let’s face it, the real star here is Idina Menzel and she certainly delivers a powerhouse performance that overcomes the hollowness of book. The star that has been described as a modern day “Ethel Merman.
The writing team has given her dynamo ballads that her fans will love. She rocks in her 11 O’clock number “Always Starting Over. There is a soaring Greek chorus in many of the scenes and they add to the storytelling.

This list of the Top Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here.. Charming Yet Clumsy I just got back from my what’s-still-playing-amid-the-strike weekend. A new round of negotiations in the stagehand strike began this past Saturday morning, and apparently continue as I write this on Sunday. The show takes its inspiration from the eponymous novel by Francine Prose , which itself is based on the commedia dell’arte tradition, with its stock characters Columbina , Pantalone , Pierrot , Harlequin , etc.
The show is partly about the transition from extemporized performances to scripted shows. The score is by composer Stephen Flaherty , and the book and lyrics are by Lynn Ahrens , both of whom I simply adore. I think they’re the most talented team working today. They always make interesting choices and execute their craft with stalwart professionalism and heart.
Even their not-so-successful shows are brimming with sympathetic characters, rich and melodious music, and clever and heartfelt lyrics. The main problem with The Glorious Ones is that the plot doesn’t really kick in until 45 minutes into this 90 minute show.

And two summers ago, we followed that purchase by getting married in Central Park, so New York is a big part of our lives together! And after a weekend back home where gay couples have, at last, been formally able to marry since Saturday, it seemed appropriate to be marking a personal anniversary over here in New York. The play deals with resonant patterns of change: Expectation, I know, can be a very dangerous thing, and I have to admit that this is the show I have most been looking forward to this season, written as it is by Tom Kitt music and Brian Yorkey book and lyrics , whose last Broadway outing Next to Normal in remains by far my favourite musical of the century so far, and which I saw no less than nine times.
This urban musical, set in New York, follows a character called Elizabeth through different life choices and paths she may take — one as Beth, the other as Liz — as she follows either a career as a city planner or chooses love with an army doctor.
Our guest reviewer and celebrity agent Terry Mills of BIG Talent Group defends Idina’s new show despite mixed reviews from Broadway critics.

Clockwise from top left: The New Celebrity Apprentice, Jan. That is an insane sentence to write!
